Hurricane Ike: Storm clean up- After the storm, our local park was a mess, strewn with trees, branches, and the trash of every overturned garbage can in the area.
Thanks go out to all those who chipped in to clean up the wreckage and to make the course playable again, just in time for the annual Hazy Doubles Tourney (see Hazy BYOP).
Jake, Brian4, GlowTom, Sam, DeWillis, Tom the canman, and all at Hazy deserve an extra thanks for doing way more than their share of cleaning up! |

Hurricane Ike: Wreckage, 9/14/’08 The region has seen devastation and wreckage widespread this past week, and Belmont Park is no exception. In total, hurricane Ike’s parting shot has felled over twenty trees on the course. Some of these were expected while some of the fallen are a complete surprise.
Often, a seemingly healthy tree is down right next to a dead husk of a tree that is still standing. Some of the holes have been changed dramatically by these losses, and this only makes the shots easier. That’s NOT a good thing for advanced and better players who need the course to stay as difficult as possible. Some of these trees had been playing goalie, blocking drives since the first day of golf at Belmont, and they will be sorely missed. |

Disc-eating tree: Belmont #11 |

Yet another disc-eating tree has been discovered at Belmont Park. This one is on both #10 and 11. It is a tall split tree that sits off to the right of each hole’s fairway. We heard of this one from a young golfer at hole #19, and I, Bobaloo, and Senor Bacon went to investigate. We found the tree easily and, after a few minutes of investigation, saw the rumored plastic through a thin crack about 12 feet up. Bobaloo got on Sr. Bacon’s shoulders and, using a knife, determined that we’d need better tools. I got a great shot of the 'hood reflected in Bacon's rear window as we ran for supplies... |

Our local star, Scott Burnett, has done it again in Ada, Ohio. Scott, known locally as “the Phenom”, took first place in the open division of the annual Freedom Flight tournament, on July, 20th. This is a PDGA tourney, Tier C for the pros, and it was a repeat performance for Phenom, as he won it last year. He is the first player to get back to back wins at this event. Following at a close second was Jason Anderson, and other locals in the division included freestyle demigod Jack Fouts and Holly Williams, our club President. Scott is the course pro at Belmont Park where he holds the course record of -16! More to come on this great player in a future ‘Player Profile’, or just stop into Hazy and check out the trophy rack… |

On Wednesday, August 20th, I was in the right place at the right time to see a great shot by Scott S. It was at Belmont Park and he was shooting the circuit: 1, 2, 3, &18 to warm up for the weekly doubles tournament when he smashed #18 with a very speedy Star TeeRex. Maybe this was one ace he should’ve saved for the tourney and gotten paid for it!
Hey, man, nice shot! Then, in a startling display of luck and accuracy, I saw two players in the same group hit aces in the same round this week. On Sunday, August 24th, a group played Belmont Park behind us, and gave us the opportunity to see Justin Thyme ace hole #6 with his putter. It was a straight, flat flier that went for it the whole way. Then a half-hour later, young Jeremiah hit a loud crasher on hole #12, his 4th this season! Our group was very impressed and recharged to shoot for aces of our own! Hey, guys, nice shot! Next up in the parade of aces is Andrew’s Birthday Blast. This was a special one. Several local players had piled into 2 cars for a road trip to the new Englewood course on Monday, August 25th. Andrew and K.V. both had birthdays and were set to enjoy an outing and some new scenery, but Andrew called it in the car, “Man, I’d really like to pop an ace for my birthday, since I’ve never had one…”.
(Back: Sam, Jaysin, KV, Mr.Wilson Front: Andrew, Bobaloo, McDeWillis) We played a round, broke for lunch, and on the second round, on #12, the trophy hole, Andrew's wish came true. He popped it with his red Star Aviar on a fairly straight, flat route. Man was he fired up! Hey, man, nice shot, and happy birthday! |

Hazy Shade- Disc golf and more Are there still folks in the Dayton area who don’t know about Hazy Shade? Apparently there are a few, given the number of new players who come through Belmont and ask us “Where do you get those discs?”. So, for those who may not know, Welcome to Hazy! |
